2026 promises to be a big year for investment in Saskatchewan

As we enter the new year, one of the big economic stories that will influence Saskatchewan’s performance – and its one that has largely been overlooked by national analysts – is investment.

2026 promises to be a big one for the province.

And it is coming on the heels of a couple strong years in this file. Saskatchewan has ranked first or second among the provinces in terms of growing investment flows for the last two years. This one looks to carry on that trend. And the big factor is mine development.

There is, of course, the ongoing work at Jansen, the world’s biggest potash mine. Foran, the world’s first carbon neutral copper mine, is nearing completion near Flin Flon. Then there are a couple new uranium mines worth billions waiting for final approval from federal authorities.

If given the green light, it would be the first new uranium mines in the province and Canada in a long, long time as well as a further signal that Saskatchewan is now a place to invest after generations of wearing the mantle of being a place where capital goes to die.
