Canadians finding innovative ways to save money

Canadians are finding some innovative or old-fashioned ways to save money as they scramble to beat the rising cost of living.

An examination of how we are addressing the ever-rising cost of living conducted for TD Bank showed one-in-four of us is doing something our grandparents did routinely …grow a garden. Fully 24-percent of those surveyed said they were growing their own food as a weapon against grocery inflation.

More than 40-percent of us have taken on a side hustle to generate a bit more income in their bid to stay ahead of rising prices. And 30-percent are selling unused clothing to recover some money. Roughly the same number are returning things they bought but don’t really need.

When asked how they would save money, almost half said they’d cut back on home food delivery and nearly that number said skipping the drive-thru morning coffee was the answer.

When asked if they’d entertain the notion of going through their home insurance policy for savings, most said they’d rather delete their favorite app and a third said sitting in traffic had more appeal.
