Choose Wisely

When Murad Al-Katib returned to his home in Regina after winning the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year™ award in Monaco and receiving the Nobel Prize for business, he was honored with a hero’s lunch. He told those who attended that when you want to solve a problem, ask an entrepreneur. They solve problems. That’s what they do. And they’ve always been the only ones who solve problems.

As the debate over the COVID and how we respond to it continues, his words are ringing loudly, offering some insight into the lines that have been drawn in this health care fight.

Initially, government responded to the outbreak. And they use the only tools they have – rules. They put restrictions on the population, reducing our mobility and so on.

Later in the process the private sector – entrepreneurs – joined the battle, delivering a vaccine that done the exact opposite of government policy. It takes down fences and restrictions, restoring our mobility.

There is, as they say, more than one way to skin the cat but there is also something of a philosophical underpinning to the course we choose to pursue.
