A crisis, they say, is a terrible thing to waste.
In short, that means when faced with difficult or crisis situations, people are willing to adapt and change. Basically, they are motivated to accept new approaches.
When building a team, according to a recent piece on the website Strategy+Business, we used to look at a couple Q’s: IQ and EQ or emotional quotient. They are advocating that we now add a third Q: Crisis Quotient or CQ.
This is one of the learnings of COVID, they say. It provided us with a lab to determine who did well in this environment and who struggled. A crisis can be to assess who can be an asset in difficult times.
Those with a high CQ can simplify complex situations, prioritize, make decisions without all the information and still be able to adjust if things are not working. A simple CQ test is to ask: who on the team has done better than expected in the past year or two and who came up short?
