Different visitor stats from Canada and the U.S.

With the cold weather upon us, this is a time of year when we think about travelling to warmer destinations. But, the trend towards finding new or alternative locations is not losing momentum.

The latest data on international vacation spots Canadians are choosing to visit comes from October so it is a few months old but it is consistent with what we have been seeing throughout 2025 as Canadians respond to American talk of the 51st State. Simply put, we are finding alternatives to the US for our holidays.

But it seems Americans have not changed their tune and they are still coming here to visit us.

Saskatchewan, for example, saw 466 more American visitors in October of this year than a year earlier. In fact, most Canadian provinces saw gains – only Quebec and PEI recorded declines. Quebec’s tourist industry lost more than 10,000 US visitors in the month. PEI, which is far smaller, lost 4,500.

The number of Canadians returning from the US fell by 26-percent, dominated by fewer day trips by car.
