It’s too early to tell if the COVID pandemic will change the landscape on selecting a career path but for high school graduates thinking about university options prior to the outbreak, the path to take for the highest pay check was pretty clear.
Eight of the top ten best paying career options for men with a bachelor’s degree in this country were in the various disciplines of engineering. Mining engineering topped the list. Nuclear, petroleum and chemical engineering were also in the top five.
For women with a Bachelor’s degree, pharmacy topped the list followed by five arms of the engineering profession.
These numbers are part of a new report from StatsCan that looks at the median income level for university graduates after five years in the workforce. At the other end of the scale were in the artistic fields. Performing arts and drama ranked lowest of 118 degreed professions for men. For women the lowest ranked professions from a pay perspective were archeology, music and multilingual education.
