Food and beverage sector saw robust business in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan residents took advantage of the warm weather in October of this year to go out for dinner or a drink.

This province’s food and beverage sector saw robust sales increases in the month when compared to their counterparts in many regions of the country.

Sales across the range of fast-food outlets, full-dining operations or bars rose nearly a full percentage point in the month, just a tenth of a point behind the national leaders in Ontario and New Brunswick. It was also more than two points ahead of Nova Scotia and more than three percent better than PEI which saw a sharp contraction.

When you step back and look at the year-over-year trends rather than the monthly figures, Saskatchewan consumers have been getting deals when going out for a meal or socializing. Total revenue for the sector rose five-percent in the year despite inflation accounting for more than half that increase. By comparison patrons in most of the country shelled out six or seven percent more to enjoy an outing.
