Head Office Power

We should never underestimate the power of head offices.

This province is not exactly head office central in the country. In fact, our history would suggest the opposite … a successful company started here is more likely than not to be taken over by a larger fish from a bigger pond.

But we’re starting to see something of a new trend on this front. The latest case in point is Saskatoon-based tech company Vendasta’s latest announcement. They have been on a significant growth track in recent years, adding customers across North America which, in turn, has attracted the attention of investors. And with capital comes buying power.

This week’s announcement centres on Vendasta’s acquisition of a Toronto-based scheduling software player.

This is not the usual track….normally, business reporters would be talking about the Toronto firm buying the Saskatchewan one. Now we have it going the other way which is a powerful testament to the importance of growing and, more importantly, retaining head offices. When the owners and decision-makers live in your community, their moves make the community bigger and stronger.
