Inter-provincial mobility shows generational choices

Saskatchewan has always been a province with a track record of being a people mover. For decades we moved them in followed by decades of moving them out and then back to moving them in. It was enough of an issue that out-migration often was a featured topic in election campaigns.

It turns out inter-provincial mobility has been an issue in all regions of the country so StatsCanada has taken a dive into what causes us to be so transient, even though only six-percent of those who changed residences moved to another province. But, for those who did go to another province, the number one reason to move is school for the youngest among us – Gen Z. For Gen X and Millennials, it was a job opportunity.
