Love comes with a price

Here’s a perspective that will take some of the romance out a Valentine’s Day relationship.

A study by the team at TD Bank has uncovered the cold, unemotional side of young love. It turns out that the majority of survey respondents in the Gen Z demographic are all about having their partner sign a prenup before entering into a long-term relationship.

It turns out Canada already has a pretty high ratio of people – 31-percent – who feel a prenup is a prerequisite to marriage or a common-law partnership. But when they isolated Gen Z participants, that figure jumped to 52-percent.

Further evidence that money rules in this age bracket, 65-percent said that their partner’s financial net worth is important to them. That is almost 10-points higher than the general adult-aged population. And fully a quarter said they wouldn’t even date someone earning less than them.

Two-thirds said they would break up with a partner who never paid for anything and for half, bad spending habits would be enough to end the relationship.
