Money strains for couples put Saskatchewan at the top in Canada

Love and money. We want them both but they can cause trouble when mixed together.

A survey of Canadians for RBC Royal Bank has determined that financial challenges brought on by affordability issues are putting a strain on couples here and across the country.

More than half of the Canadians who answered the survey said they need to be in a relationship in order to make ends meet. Fifty-five percent said they simply could not do it alone. That is a source of tension.

Three-quarters say money and finances is the cause of stress and sixty percent said it is the cause of arguments with two-in-ten complaining their partner simply won’t talk about money. And the way the other partner handles finances is frustrating for a quarter of the respondents because half of us think we’re better at it.

Eighty four percent of Saskatchewan residents report being frustrated about money. That’s the highest percentage in the country. And sixty percent of us – the highest percentage in Canada – believe we need to be in a relationship to support our lifestyle.
