Potential entrepreneurs want to know where to start

There’s nothing like a little uncertainty to get people thinking about trying something new. And maybe the most dependable person to make that happen is themselves.

A survey of Canadians conducted for a platform called OWNR which is part of RBC Royal Bank found that about half of us want to start our own business this year. Nearly 20-percent think about it every day.

But these are people would be new to the entrepreneurial game so they are challenged with: Where do I start?

The largest impediment or road block getting in the way is financial. That is followed closely by the fear of failure. The third issue was compliance – people are confused by things such as business registration rules and red tape. Those findings prompted the CEO of OWNR to suggest Canadians don’t lack ambition but our ‘activation’ button is broken.

The report offers some guidance for business start-up wannabes. First of all, start small with little steps like registering domain names and establishing a basic online presence. Then establish micro-milestones and get started.
