Premiers feeling optimistic after meeting with the PM

Much has been made, even in the few weeks since the federal election, about the new tone that has emerged with Mark Carney at the helm in the country. And it was evident yesterday in Saskatoon.

The premiers and PM concluded their meeting talking about optimism and possibilities rather than bickering and unilateral imposition of rules.

Basically, watching the post-meeting media conference in Saskatoon yesterday felt like watching the players of a losing sports team rally around a new coach who has a new plan. In short, we saw Canada’s version of Ted Lasso yesterday.

It also underscored just how dysfunctional Canada had become under Justin Trudeau as we fell from a respected G7 player to a nation unable to get anything significant completed.

When the PM listed off a long dance card of the projects that had been stalled, delayed or simply sidelined by the previous administration he proved the point… Canadians have plenty of plans but Ottawa ensured not of them came to pass.

The relief expressed by the Premiers at the conclusion of yesterday’s meeting was palpable.
