Province remains one of the best places for rent

Saskatchewan remains the most attractive place in the country for renters.

This may not be great news for landlords but it is for those who are at the tenancy stage of their lives: Saskatoon and Regina rank well in the ten most affordable major cities in the land.

Saskatoon stands in sixth place…Regina is third behind Sherbrooke and Drummondville, Quebec.

The latest data on rental rates also shows some of the most expensive cities may have peaked but they are still in the expensive category.

Vancouver saw average rents for a two-bedroom apartment fall from more than $3,400 to $3,200 a month. In Toronto, the same apartment goes for $2,700 a month, down a couple hundred bucks from a year earlier. Even single rooms are going from $800 to $1000 in the Okanagan and Vancouver.

Now, here’s the comparison with Saskatchewan. That two-bedroom unit in Saskatoon is $1,490 a month, unchanged from last year and roughly half the going rate in either Vancouver or Toronto. At $1,410 a month, Regina is even more attractive even though rates rose $40 in the past year.
