This sounds like a Saskatchewan economic developers dream story.
A recent survey conducted for the national real estate firm Royal LePage focused on an area where Saskatchewan has a distinct advantage: residential affordability.
The firm polled residents of the big three – Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal – found that half of them would entertain the idea of leaving the big city for a more affordable community if…and here’s where the economic development folks come in – they could land a job in that new community.
For a province like Saskatchewan, this should be easy peasy. We have one of the highest job vacancy rates in Canada right now as employers are creating more jobs than they can find people to fill them. And we’re affordable. Regina is #5 in terms of affordability on the Royal LePage ranking.
Saskatoon stands in 12th spot on the firm’s 15 most affordable Canadian cities. Both Regina and Saskatoon saw their affordability factors improve in the past year but there’s also no doubt many smaller Saskatchewan centres would fare even better on this rating.
