Rich environment for job seekers in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan continues to be the best place for job seekers.

The latest tally of job vacancies – those are positions that have been created by employers but not yet filled – shows Saskatchewan doing well on this front, quite well actually. We have more than 15,000 unfilled positions looking for candidates.

That represents about three-percent of the workforce, roughly comparable to what was seen in Manitoba and BC. The BC story, though, is a bit different. They have vacancies because people are moving away in search of places with more affordable housing costs.

Saskatchewan has the best unemployment-to-vacancy ratio among all the provinces. In other words, we have the fewest number of people seeking employment compared to available opportunities at 1.8. That translates into 1.8 unemployed people for every vacant job. In other regions it is as high as seven as job vacancies drop across the country, including here.

Nonetheless, with the lowest ratio in Canada it is still challenging for employers who are faced with a small pool of candidates while job seekers have a target rich environment.
