Saskatchewan still one of the best places to find employment

Saskatchewan seems to be back on the trend line as an attractive place to find work.

For people looking to secure employment, tracking job vacancies is one tool to identify where the best prospects are situated. And Saskatchewan is again near the top of the rankings among the provinces.

The latest report on this metric is for September. We’ve been in the top two provinces for most of the year – the exception was August when we fell a few levels – but we were back in second place in September.

Our current rate is 3.4-percent. In other words, employers have created these jobs but they are not yet filled. And that’s on a seasonally adjusted basis. When you remove the averaging, the rate actually goes up – to 3.9-percent. StatsCan also noted that we have 2.1 unemployed people for every opening and that too is one of the better ratios in the country.

In other words, people have plenty of opportunity to find work in this province as job creation is generally keeping up with the growth in our working age population.
