Saskatchewan’s food and beverage sales indicate stability returning

Saskatchewan’s food and beverage sales numbers are not as big or impressive but, in this case, that’s actually comforting.

One industry that had to endure a lot during the COVID pandemic was the food and beverage sector. That was even more pronounced if the business was also part of a hotel. Lockdowns and restrictions were very tight and it changed the way a lot of players in this sector operate.

But as we get out of the pandemic period and start to see a return to what some might consider ‘more normal’, we are finally seeing some stability return to this sector. One measure of their performance is overall sales or revenue and we have just seen June’s figures for Saskatchewan and the country.

In Saskatchewan, things have plateaued and Saskatchewan was actually the only province to see sales contract in June — only marginally — but they did go down.

Compared to a year earlier, during the pandemic, sales this year were 11 per cent higher in June. But to get an understanding of how things have stabilized, just a month earlier they were 25 per cent higher. So, we seeing things settle down — at last.
