Saskatchewan’s global role on behalf of Canada is rising

Canada wants better trade relations with more countries but we have a lot of repair work to do. And Saskatchewan has been handling the first aid kit.

Justin Trudeau did a lot to undermine relationships with two of the world’s largest economies. He torqued India with his family vacation antics and then followed it up with accusations of murder. Then he accused China of election interference coupled with tariffs on EV imports.

All of this made it harder for Saskatchewan to sell into two of our largest export markets.

Normally, premiers are active in promoting international trade but not a visible player on trade policy. Scott Moe changed that this year.

First, he went to China on canola tariffs. The PM then called him to Ottawa for a briefing, paving the way for Carney to meet with his Chinese counterpart at APEC and plans for a visit next year.

Moe was also asked by Anita Anand to attend last week’s G7 meeting in Ontario to meet with the Indian Foreign Minister. Saskatchewan’s global role on behalf of Canada is rising.
