Some parents reluctant to discuss money with their kids

This is a topic that’s getting more attention these days. Perhaps its because this is financial literacy month in Canada but the topic is: talking about money with your kids.

RBC has now issued a survey showing that a good number of parents are reluctant to have the talk with their kids, partly because they don’t feel all that confident about the subject themselves.

Half of those surveyed said they are feeling stressed about their children’s financial future but they are still delaying or postponing talking to the kids about.

Some are waiting for a key life moment. Others are waiting for the kids to bring it up. The largest percentage of the respondent group has adult children, not just those with teenagers.

Here in Saskatchewan, 44-percent worry about their children’s future. That’s the lowest number in the land. We also ranked best when asked about stressing over our own personal finances as well as the kids’ future. We’re also the most likely to postpone the conversation until the kids bring it up.
