State-of-the-art LED stage reviving Saskatchewan’s film industry

This may be the sign that the Saskatchewan film industry is back.

There was a very popular open house in Regina this past weekend to introduce a new technology to the industry as the John Hopkins Sound Stage is poised to find a special place in the business community.

Back when the provincial Film Tax Credit was abolished, Saskatchewan’s film industry was virtually gutted as we were the only province not offering the incentive. An alternate plan was largely unsuccessful until the last year or two.

It turns out technology may trump politics as a state-of-the-art LED stage has been unveiled at the Sound Stage. It has been described as the biggest in the world and, even though Saskatchewan has been out of the loop on film production for a decade, it is now jumping to the front of the line with this advanced system allowing film makers to simulate any location in the world digitally.

A significant new series is being launched at the stage in the new year and the provincial government has upped the ante on its support program by adding funds because of the increasing demand.
