Strong vehicle sales a reflection of Saskatchewan consumers

It was Saskatchewan consumers who were stepping up to the plate just as the Blue Jays were rolling into the World Series.

The latest figures on new vehicle sales in the province have been released by StatsCanada, tracking activity in October. And the numbers were strong.

Motor vehicle dealers moved more than 4,700 new units in the month. That is roughly 10-percent more than in the same month last year. Year-over-year comparisons are most accurate as they take out seasonality. That was the second month in a row that 2025 sales outpaced 2024 by double digits.

Sales throughout the year have exceeded last year’s levels but as we moved out of summer, activity began to accelerate. This provides some insight into the mood of consumers province-wide.

Big ticket purchases such as a new vehicle suggest people currently have a high degree of confidence in their mid-to long-term economic futures. This was underscored by the fact that they were also spending more on their vehicles with total dollar volume roughly 15-percent ahead of last year.
