With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it turns out the language of love and money talk share a similar vocabulary.
If you’re part of the dating scene these days, the way your partner wants to mark Valentine’s Day can offer some important insights into the foundation of a relationship. That’s because money is coming up earlier in relationships and today’s economy is influencing dating decisions.
A survey by TD Bank says this is especially true for those in the Gen Z demographic. Fully thirty-percent of us say we are going for cheaper options when it comes to dating. It’s even higher for Gen Z.
The survey also discovered that 25-percent of the population prioritizing money discussions earlier in their relationships and nearly as many are looking for someone with the similar money habits.
The Gen Z crowd is especially vocal on this subject with more than half said lying about money was a deal breaker. Yet, four-in-ten admitted they kept financial secrets from their partner. They are also twice as likely to keep separate rather than joint bank accounts.
