Tight labour market continues in the province

Saskatchewan’s labor market is continuing to tighten up as the spread between job openings and people available to fill them narrows and average wage packages increase.

The latest job vacancy numbers from October show Saskatchewan with nearly 15,000 vacant jobs. These are positions employers have created but not yet filled. That is down from September and continue a trend that has been evident for most of 2025 as more people arrive in Saskatchewan in pursuit of the opportunities being created here.

When you compare the vacancies to the number of people available for work, it is easy to see how employers are still struggling to find talent. The ratio between vacancies and unemployment in October showed there are 2.5 people looking for work for every opening. That leaves employers with a small talent pool. In some provinces the ratio is as high as seven available candidates per opening.

Employers have responded by raising the money they are paying workers. The average weekly wage rose in October while it was going down in Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta.
