Top five savings priorities in Saskatchewan

We’ve barely had a touch of snow so far this fall but already Saskatchewan residents are planning their winter getaway.

That’s the finding of a survey conducted for Conexus Credit Union. It polled people in the province on their top five saving priorities this fall. Topping the list was a winter holiday, flagged by more than a third of all respondents.

The next largest group – 29-percent – said they were not saving for anything and have no major purchases in mind right now. But a quarter of the population is setting aside money to fund home improvements or renovations. This is particularly noticeable among those over the age of 35.

The last major priority – cited by 15-percent of those surveyed – related to paying down bills and debts in a bid to strengthen their financial security. And it also showed up across all age and demographic groups.

The Top 5 list was rounded out with a few topics mentioned by smaller segments of the population including spending more on holidays and events or putting more emphasis on kids and education.
