Vehicle purchases slowly picking up

We might finally be catching up.

Saskatchewan drivers have been renewing their rides with some gusto this year but, while the trend is continuing, the pace may be slowing a bit.

We’ve just received sales figures for new vehicle dealers for the month of September. They’re up about 5-percent over the same month a year ago.

That stands up pretty well but it is lower than previous months where the increases were running in the 30-percent range.

Consumers throughout the continent pulled in their horns during COVID when it came to purchasing new vehicles. First of all, we weren’t driving as much and big-ticket purchases like a new car or truck tended to be postponed. Once the pandemic restrictions were lifted, it took a while for dealers to get their hands on fresh inventory.

But now supply chains and assembly lines seem to be back to normal and consumers are responding…buying new vehicles, especially pick-up trucks and SUVs, at a consistent rate of more than 4,000 a month in Saskatchewan.
