Anyone searching for a new job may want to take a look in the Yorkton-Melville corridor.
StatsCanada tracks a host of employment metrics including job vacancies. Usually, they report on a monthly basis but they also aggregate their findings to look at trend lines rather than just the ups-and-downs of monthly fluctuations.
And what they found is job openings grew faster in east central Saskatchewan than any other region of the country in Q1 of this year.
It went up one full percentage point to 4.7-percent compared to a year earlier. In other words, employers were looking for talent to fill five-percent of the slots on their payrolls.
Nationally, positions as material handlers and on shop floors in manufacturing or processing operations generated the most job openings – nearly double a year earlier – followed by the retail sector.
On the other side of the equation, the number of shipper/receiver positions declined more than any other category followed by vacancies in home care and then various levels of the nursing field.
