A Penny Saved is a Penny Saved

A family get together. That tops the wish list.

As we make headway towards the goal of having enough people vaccinated to allow for the gradual return to normal life, the number one thing we are waiting for is a large gathering with friends and family. Travelling outside the country by air is #2 and ranking third highest on our wish list is enjoying a restaurant meal with friends.

That comes from a survey conducted for ScotiaBank which says pandemic-induced denial has changed many of our habits but one we will not resume when this is all over is over-indulgent spending. We got into a routine of saving through the pandemic which limited our expenditure opportunities. Apparently we have learned to like that development.

As the bank watches its deposit accounts they have noticed a pattern towards saving with almost half of us now saying we saved more than usual through the pandemic and even more expect they will be able to maintain that new regime once things re-open.

And, after the COVID experience, almost 30% say opened and will continue to build up an emergency account.
