Itβs been a good run for Saskatoon-based Cameco.
The uranium mining giant recently won a court case with the Canada Revenue Agency, one where the panel sided completely with the company. At stake was tax on hundreds of millions of dollars. The firm was also awarded $10 million in legal costs.
Then it was victorious in an action with TEPCO, the Tokyo Electric Power Company over supply contracts. The company was awarded $40 million with this decision.
And most recently Donald Trump sided with the firm in overriding his own officials to declare that Canada would not be subject to tougher import quotas declaring Canadian uranium was not a threat to US National security.
While the uranium industry is a tough one these days β and has been for a few years now β the folks who oversee the biggest player in the business have something to be proud of. They clearly have a solid handle on what they are doing and demonstrate a high level of integrity as evidenced by their ability to convince higher authorities that their management practices are rock solid.
