Communicate with confidence during a crisis

There is a lot of interest in issues management and crisis communications.

Issues management  – the process organizations go through to manage an issue before it becomes a crisis – and crisis communications are top-of-mind in our current environment where issues discussed online can become a crisis in a matter of minutes.

Thankfully, the focus of that interest seems to be on how to be prepared before one happens rather than how to handle it once you are in the middle of a crisis.

Preparation is key to being confident when you are faced with a real crisis  – preparation takes the panic out of the possibility of a crisis.

At Martin Charlton, we meet with a lot of organizations, large and small, public and private, and member-based organizations who resolve to get started creating, updating or reviewing their crisis communications plan.

That’s good to hear.

No organization can afford to think it is immune to having a crisis.

The first step is to create an issues management/crisis communications plan and update it annually.

Having a plan gives you a roadmap to follow when the crisis hits.
