This is an interesting mid-year resolution…a growing percentage of the population is considering starting a business.
As we exit the summer and head into the fall, it is like a second ‘new year’ as kids head back to school and we hunker down for coming winter. And, for many Canadians, that is bringing out thoughts of entrepreneurship.
The annual RBC Royal Bank Small Business Survey determined that more than half of us are now giving this idea some serious consideration. This is a five-percent jump coming after a couple years of decline.
And it isn’t always a big move. Rather, many are looking to make the transition from employee to entrepreneur gradually with the largest percentage saying they are exploring a way to turn a hobby or something they are passionate about into a business. Others are working side hustles as a mechanism to get started and build some momentum before totally embracing self-employment.
Interestingly, the largest group say they want their ventures to have value or purpose, ranking that higher than making money.
