Farm cash receipts in this province fell in 2024. Year-end numbers were released Friday showing Saskatchewan farmers saw their cash receipts drop six-percent compared to 2023. That was the steepest decline in the country.
The year-end figures show declines across the board as lower crop prices took a toll on top lines in every province outside Atlantic Canada.
Nationally, cash revenues fell just over two-percent.
The big story behind the story here is livestock prices. They were up 6-percent nationally compared to a seven-percent decline in crop prices. Cattle receipts went up 11-percent while sheep and lambs rose even more at 14-percent.
On the other side of the scale, wheat producers saw cash receipts fall by 18-percent compared to the previous year. For barley the decline was 25-percent. Revenues for peas and lentils saw double digit declines. Canola receipts dropped about 5-percent.
Saskatchewan’s dominance in crop production sector was evident in this report as StatsCanada says Saskatchewan’s one-and-a-half billion decline accounted for two-thirds of the total reduction in Canada.
