Another report has put Saskatchewan back in top spot for fast movers among the provinces.
The first of the mid-year-round quarterly economic forecasts issued by the major chartered banks has just been released. It comes from RBC Royal Bank.
The RBC Royal Bank report comes on the heels of the Conference Board forecast that also put Saskatchewan’s growth prospects first among the provinces.
That report says Saskatchewan should experience expansion of six per cent this year. That is nearly half a point higher than Alberta and ahead of Manitoba and B.C. which round out the top four as Western Canada’s economy picks up momentum.
The drought took the wind out of our sails last year, so, Saskatchewan had the farthest distance to rebound, one of the reasons for our strong growth projections.
But Saskatchewan is also riding the wave of higher commodity prices, which the bank sees as a catalyst for not only stronger income levels, but as a magnet for capital investment.
That is adding to the expansionary theme for the west at a time when central Canada appears headed towards a slow down.
