We may not be attending major spectator events right now but we certainly are interested in a new place to live.
When economists talk about the COVID recovery they tend to use letters from the alphabet to describe the direction things are going. There is the V-recovery which was a sharp downward movement followed by a quick rebound. Then there’s the U-recovery….down quick but slower to return. And then there’s the K. That one has some sectors rebound quickly and others going back down.
Among those in the upper leg of the K are homebuilders. The idea of buying a new house is popular just about everywhere in the country. The number of newly constructed units on the market has dropped almost 30-percent as buyers scoop them up.
Here in Saskatchewan, the price of a new home was up roughly half of one percent in the month of September alone. That puts them back where they were a year ago in Saskatoon but still four points below last year’s level in Regina, the market with the deepest discount in the country.
