Observations from Isolation

With many of us practising self-isolation, trying to do some work from home or simply passing the time until our workplaces can reopen there are a few learnings we can draw upon to see what the future might look like.

First of all, we are finding out just how well the idea of telecommuting is going to work. Many of us are finding that we can indeed function remotely. For some businesses, who have been embracing the concept for a long time, this really is no inconvenience….it’s what they’ve always done so they find themselves with a competitive advantage right now.

We’re discovering how much discretionary spending we do – after a week or two at home and no expenditures at restaurants or gas stations.

Also we’re finding out that we can actually have live contact through the various on-line platforms for business meetings – things like Teams, GoTo Meeting or Zoom. In a post COVID world the demand for meeting and even office space may be reduced as more of us work from home, connected through online platforms.
