The labor market in this province seems to be heating up.
We track a basket of indicators to get a feel for the labor market – the relationship between employers who are looking to add or reduce the number of people on their payrolls – and workers who are either holding a job or looking for one.
The most visible indicator is the unemployment rate but it doesn’t provide a full picture. To get a little deeper insight, we also examine what is happening with pay packages….when they’re going up, it is a sign that the market is tightening up: that employers are willing to shell out more for talent.
And that appears to have been the situation in May. We had the biggest gains in the country in that month and, for the first time we are now in second place among the provinces.
