The manufacturing sector is continuing to post strong numbers in this province.
The consistency of factory output in Saskatchewan has been noticeable for more than a year as it represents one part of the economy that has managed to cope with the pandemic quite well. The latest sales figures for this segment of the economy are from March.
It was a good month for the entire country as every province posted an increase. And that was especially evident in Saskatchewan where we saw gains exceeding 10-percent over February. That was the second largest increase in the country and significantly higher than the 3-percent national figure.
And while you’d expect March to be stronger than February because there are 10-percent more production days, even the year-over-year jump was notable, standing 30% higher than at the same time a year earlier. Again, that was the second-largest increase in the country behind one of the Maritime Provinces and, again, it was twice the improvement seen across the country with Regina providing much of the lift as it posted a 60-percent increase in the last year.
