A well-known member of the provincial business community passed away on the weekend.
Clay Dowling was the founder of Ghost Transportation, a company whose easily identifiable tractor-trailers were a common sight on the province’s highways. He started the business in his garage as a single employee and grew it into a firm recognized throughout the industry and the country.
Known for his ability to distill seemingly big issues into understandable bite-sized pieces, he was a frank talker who called a Spade A Shovel but also had time to mentor the next generation.
A former elected president of the provincial chamber of commerce, he was named the Saskatchewan Business Leader of the Year, inducted into the Transportation Hall of Fame and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from NSBA, an organization he headed as elected president twice.
Dowling left a big imprint on the broader community as well, sitting as the public representative on the boards of two accounting professions, he sat on the national Chamber of Commerce Board, advised on small business and entrepreneurship initiatives and worked on expanding Saskatchewan’s trade connections with his deep understanding of global shipping and transportation.
