Saskatchewan economy projected to remain strong while house prices drop

Saskatchewan’s economy remains on track to be one of the top performers among the provinces this year.

This from the latest update of provincial outlooks coming from the team at TD Bank. They project the province will see growth of 2.4 per cent this year. That is second only to Alberta which is just slightly ahead of us and this target is well above the national average of 1.6 per cent.

We also will boast the second-lowest unemployment rate in nation this year. But we are falling behind other places when it comes to housing starts, according to this forecast. Even with less inventory in the pipeline, though, home prices are projected to decline in Saskatchewan this year – down nearly half a point while the national average is for prices to go up half a point.

The overall momentum we are seeing right now will continue into 2024, according to TD which sees us leading the country next year with growth of 1.2 per cent, tied with Newfoundland and Labrador but ahead of Alberta in third spot as the oil producers continue to turn in the strongest national performances.
