Saskatchewan Housing Market Still Climbing

There are some cracks showing in residential real estate markets in some parts of the country but Saskatchewan demand is remaining rock solid.

We’ve now got some detailed figures on how buyers and sellers were acting in April and there are some disparities. RBC Royal Bank, for example, says housing mania toned down a notch in this country in April with sales declining by 12% although prices were still rising. However, the bank does not include Saskatchewan in this particular report, relying only on numbers from big cities where craziness has been the order of the day.

One Saskatchewan person recently transferred to Ottawa reports losing a bid on a house that went for $300,000 over ask. $300K…that’s more than the average home price in many cities in this province.

In contrast to the RBC assessment, the Saskatchewan Realtors Association reports April was a record month with sales up 97% so far this year while the price index rose 10% to $284,000. Compared to April of last year, the first month of the pandemic, there were roughly two to three times more transactions last month.
