Mothers, tell your children to be shipper receivers.
The latest job vacancy report is out. It shows where the best place to find a job is situated. And, once again, Saskatchewan fares quite well having the third-highest percentage of job openings among the provinces. Only PEI and BC are higher, and just barely higher.
Employers in this province currently have more than 18,000 unfilled positions. That’s roughly 5,000 fewer than a year ago but still a healthy number considering that nationally unemployment is growing as job vacancies decline. Here, our unemployment rate remains low – usually sitting first or second in the country.
The segment that has seen the largest increase in vacancies nationally is shipper-receiver but medical specialties such as medical radiologists, perfusionists or respiratory therapists are high. Perhaps, not a surprise, given the challenges in meeting growing demand in healthcare.
At the other end of the ledger, jobs requiring less than a high school education are disappearing – positions such as retail clerks, shelf stockers and food counter or kitchen personnel.
