Never has the need to develop effective communications strategies been more apparent than in times of crisis. The CoVid-19 crisis is a case in point.
For those at the top of organizations, the people charged with making big decisions, often in the face of complex or even contradictory information, these are trying times. As a leader you know you have to make choices and then communicate them with confidence and precision.
Addressing various constituencies – from customers to suppliers, financiers, shareholder and employees – becomes one of the most important jobs a boss has. And sometimes it can be lonely….think of the head of the NBA who was the first to call off the season. Other professional sports bodies followed suit, likely feeling they had cover with the NBA decision, but somebody, somewhere had to make the first call.
No doubt they felt a bit more confident when others followed but being first requires strength and the ability to convince those around you that it is the correct way to go.
This CoVid-19 crisis is putting the Lead in leadership as those at the top of organizations are being tested.
