The old adage: Spend less than you take in is no doubt top of mind for many in this country these days.

Remember those headlines over the last few years – that many Canadians are $200 away from not being able to cover their monthly bills? When reflecting on the new ‘economy’ created by the COVID pandemic – where we’re largely isolated indoors – that headline is hard to forget.

Now that we’re more than a month into the national isolation program, we are going to be finding out just how accurate those forecasts were.

For many, the support being offered by Ottawa through EI or one of the new programs will likely be less than their regular paycheck. So, for those who are in the 48-percent with little to no cushion for unexpected bills, this will be a challenging time.
