There are a few communities in this province that are undertaking locally-driven economic development initiatives that are setting them apart from their counterparts. Towns like Moosomin with its ambitious growth plans is one. Another is Kerrobert where they have developed a unique structure to encourage local investment.
And another is Tisdale.
This northeast Saskatchewan community enjoys the benefit of a flourishing entrepreneurial mindset spawned by a few players with plenty of imagination and grit who are building on the agricultural base of the region. And with that comes the need for enhanced transportation networks to get their output to foreign markets.
Their latest effort is a partnership between Invest Tisdale which is owned by the town and the RM, and Arctic Gateway Group which owns the Port of Churchill. The two-pronged plan is to revitalize a short line rail link to the port while attracting new industry to town to increase traffic volume on the rail link to the northern port.
