Two Saskatchewan regions among Canada’s top 10 places for unfilled jobs

Employers outside of Saskatchewan’s two major cities are creating jobs faster than the workforce can fill them.

That’s a highlight of the nation’s latest job vacancy rate which showed the Moose Jaw – Swift Current corridor as well as the area including Yorkton and Melville rank in the top 10 places in the country to find a job right now.

The number of unfilled jobs in the Moose Jaw – Swift Current region rose from 5.1 per cent at the end of 2022 to 5.8 per cent last December. That was the fourth highest rate of job vacancies in the country. In other words, if you’re looking for work, this is the fourth best place in the nation to find a slot. The ones ahead include the northern coast of BC and a rural region of Quebec.

The Yorkton- Melville corridor ranked number six in the country and was only slightly behind Moose Jaw with a vacancy rate of 5.7 per cent. The Regina-Moose Mountain region also posted vacancy growth but the remainder of the province, including Saskatoon and the North actually saw the gap closing.
