Un-retiring becoming more popular

The concept of un-retiring is a story that developed in the UK but it is getting traction in many industrialized economies as it puts its finger on a trend that seems to be in ascension.

This is where someone who has earned the gold watch following a productive career gets bored and returns to the workforce. Sometimes it is to take another job, for others it is the chance to start a business. But it is growing in popularity as people live longer today and find themselves needing to supplement their retirement income.

This was started with a survey by Standard Life which polled nearly 7,000 retirees that found one in three people who had left the workforce were returning. Half of those did it because they needed the income and men were twice as likely as women to choose this path.

And, while there was a segment wanting to build their savings so when it did come time to retire they could treat themselves better, the underlying story is to start retirement saving earlier.
