These relationships over the decades have taught us so much about the history, traditions, values and experiences of the people we work with as we support their efforts. The stories shared with us and that we have had a part in sharing have shaped our work and us as people.
But we recognize our learning must continue. This past year, our team participated in Indigenous Awareness sessions designed by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce to inform those in the business community about the culture and history of First Nation and Métis peoples in Saskatchewan.
This training by John Lagimodiere and Nick Crighton opened our eyes further to how much there is to know and understand. First, there are the facts that provide context to understand today’s developments and relationships. Then, there are the experiences to reflect on to acknowledge their impact. Finally, there are the efforts being made to reconcile the past with the present and develop a better future.
Gaining the additional knowledge and insight we did this year has forever changed the way we will work with our clients. It will be present in our work with our Indigenous partners and has encouraged us to seek more opportunities to engage and work with Indigenous communities.
We value opportunities to work with those whose stories are vital to fully understanding and realizing what is possible and favourable for Saskatchewan as well as what the people of this province are contributing to the world. Through stories, we can engage with one another on a level that aligns us in our acknowledgement of the past, our respect for one another today and our appreciation for what we want for our future.
