This might be a heads up for employers worried about retaining their talent: a poll conducted for RBC Royal Bank says upwards of three-quarters of workers between the ages of 35 and 54 figured they’ve peaked in their careers. And they are looking to starting their own enterprise in hopes of improving their financial situation.
And having been born into an entrepreneurial family will increase the likelihood of taking that path.
The big drivers in this pursuit are the notion of becoming your own boss. That was cited by almost all the survey responses. And three-quarters said they looking to break out of the traditional 9 – 5 workday with a big percentage believing they can turn a start-up into a significant enterprise.
People who already own businesses say they think embarking a business venture in mid-career is a solid option. Turning ideas that start as hobbies or passion projects into money makers is a fairly standard track for those who make the jump from employee or working for someone else to working for themselves.
