Cha-Ching. What The Heck

Long before the TV series Gold Rush made it fashionable to pursue the promise of riches in the Canadian wilderness, a friend of mine was helping finance a wannabe gold miner in his dream of riches in the wilds of Northern BC. To hear my friend explain it, the bonanza was always to be discovered by digging a few feet deeper or farther. We just need another piece of equipment. Even though they ran on a shoestring they somehow managed to find the cash to borrow, lease or rent that piece of gear. As he put it: you get in so deep gold fever takes over and they said….what the heck. Cha-Ching.

We may be getting into that same terrain in the coming weeks as our federal politicians traverse the country in pursuit of the riches of a majority government. And, given the way they have been spending for the last year and a half where the money pot seemed bottomless, racking up another few hundred billion in debt will no doubt come with that same sense of restraint….what the heck.  Cha-Ching.
