Saskatchewan is taking centre stage with an educational tool to help Canadians learn more about this country’s Indigenous history.
In recent months, there has been an unprecedented awakening in corporate Canada of the First Nations and Indigenous reality in this country. While it was always there the recent revelations regarding residential schools has heightened that awareness, prompting business leaders to focus on this topic in a new way.
And one organization that has been tapped to help the country’s business community ‘re-learn’ our history First Nations University of Canada in Regina. This week RBC Royal Bank announced a partnership with the university and Reconciliation Education to deliver an on-line series of self-learning modules on Truth and Reconciliation.
The program, which is open to anyone, went live this week and will run again next year. Called 4 Seasons of Reconciliation content for the program includes award-winning multimedia and Elder directed material.
A spokesperson for the University said they hope the program will help close the knowledge gap in Indigenous history while addressing one of the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calling for economic equality and reconciliation.
